Jidanping Fm

Period:
Mesoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Jixianian (Calymmian) Jx (20,21)

Province:
Henan, Shaanxi, Shanxi

Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Shanxi. The Jidanping Fm was named by the Party of Regional Geological Survey, Henan Bureau of Geology in 1965. The type section is in Jidanping Village, Tongshan Township, Yuanqu County, Shanxi Province. Lower-middle (2/4) formation in the Xiong'er Gr.

Synonym: (鸡蛋坪组), Rhyolite Fm, Rhyolite Porphyry Member, the middle Xiong'er Gr, and Jiaoyuan Fm are all different names for Jidanping Fm.

Lithology and Thickness

The formation is composed of acid volcanic rock. In it is dominated by purple-red, grey-black rhyolite, dacite, quartz porphyry with volcanic clastic rock. But the lithological character varies slightly in different localities, for example it sandwiched pillow andesite porphyrite and augite andesite porphyrite and hornblende andesite porphyrite in Xiong'er Mountain and Xiaoshan Mountain, but around Muzhijie, Songxian County, it sandwiched with marble lenticules. The base of the formation is marked by rhyolite or quartz porphyry The formation varies greatly in thickness, e. g. it is 112 m in Jiyuan County, but 960-1080 m thick in Xiong'er Mountain, but around Waifangs Mt., it varies from 173 to 2478 m. It varies from 112 m to 2478 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Lava
