Jidanping Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast Shanxi. The Jidanping Fm was named by the Party of Regional Geological Survey, Henan Bureau of Geology in 1965. The type section is in Jidanping Village, Tongshan Township, Yuanqu County, Shanxi Province. Lower-middle (2/4) formation in the Xiong'er Gr.
Synonym: (鸡蛋坪组), Rhyolite Fm, Rhyolite Porphyry Member, the middle Xiong'er Gr, and Jiaoyuan Fm are all different names for Jidanping Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is composed of acid volcanic rock. In it is dominated by purple-red, grey-black rhyolite, dacite, quartz porphyry with volcanic clastic rock. But the lithological character varies slightly in different localities, for example it sandwiched pillow andesite porphyrite and augite andesite porphyrite and hornblende andesite porphyrite in Xiong'er Mountain and Xiaoshan Mountain, but around Muzhijie, Songxian County, it sandwiched with marble lenticules. The base of the formation is marked by rhyolite or quartz porphyry The formation varies greatly in thickness, e. g. it is 112 m in Jiyuan County, but 960-1080 m thick in Xiong'er Mountain, but around Waifangs Mt., it varies from 173 to 2478 m. Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformable contact with underlying volcanics of Xushan Fm.
Upper contact
It is in conformable contact with Majiahe Fm.
Regional extent
NE Shaanxi-NW Henan-S. Shanxi. It is distributed in Xiong'er Mt., Xiaoshan Mt. and Wangwu Mts.
